Description
This module is for emerging and core National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered behaviour support practitioners (practitioners). It is about practice foundations.
The role, its regulatory and legal responsibilities will be identified. The knowledge, skills and attitudes required of a practitioner will be explored. We will also identify the models and approaches to behaviour support that are foundational to being a practitioner.
It can help you think about whether this role is right for you!
If you know it is right, it can help you identify competency gaps and inform your professional development plan.
It differs from the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework (Capability Framework) in the way it is presented and organised, although it is broadly inclusive of the seven practice domains contained in the framework. It offers a different way of exploring your own competencies before or after you engage in the formal application process with the NDIS Commission.
Much of this module has been informed by the experience of Guidestar behaviour support practitioners who provide some reflections throughout the module.
Approximate time to complete module: 40 minutes (not including time spend looking at additional resources)
